"Patchwork", The 3rd String Quartet By Barbara Heller (Schott Ed 20775), Is Now Also Available In A Version For String Orchestra. "Patchwork" Is Fun With Its Cheerful, Airy And Light Character. Playfully Flowing Figures, Often In Pizzicato, Alternate With "Standing Sound Surfaces". Conceived As A Tritone Study By Heller, The Sound Material Consisted Entirely Of Whole Tone Ratios. The Unusual Timbre Of The Tritone Therefore Requires Precise Intonation. The Interpretation Is Left Free At The Tempo: "Patchwork" Can Be Played Statically At A Moderate Tempo, But Also Quickly And Witty "Scurry Past".
